In the 19th century the house served as a hunting lodge. Today it is a beautiful 5-star Relais & Chateaux country hotel in classic English style. Surrounded by nature and high above the sea, it offers a view of the Palheiro Gardens. The capital Funchal is around seven kilometers away and shuttles to the city are offered twice a day. The 18-hole Palheiro championship course is located right next to the hotel. The second 18-hole Santo da Serra golf course is around a 30-minute drive away.
The 38 rooms and suites are spread over three different buildings and reflect the history of the Palheiro Estate in all its beauty and elegance. Each room combines classic design with contemporary embellishments and luxurious comfort. Dark wooden floors, floral curtains and bedding add a special touch to the stay. Each room has a private bathroom, 30-channel cable TV, air conditioning and much more.
There is a choice of three restaurants. In the main restaurant "Quinta Casa Velha do Palheiro", you can enjoy your delicious breakfast in the morning in the beautiful English dining room, served in ceramic tableware. In the evening, the room is transformed into a romantic restaurant with fantastic gourmet cuisine featuring Portuguese and international dishes.
In the afternoon, you can dine in the beautiful Club House with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean and the bay of Funchal. There are great international dishes to choose from. Alternatively, the teahouse in the middle of the garden offers delicious sandwiches, soups and salads.
