Fashion icon Laura Biagiotti founded the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club just outside Rome in 1989. And she ran it until her death. Unfortunately, the Italian designer did not live to see the highlight of the club's history, the staging of the Ryder Cup on her course in the Eternal City. From some holes, you can look out over the city to the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. The terrain is hilly and criss-crossed by streams. A meal in the clubhouse after the round is also worthwhile. Marco Giordani, who trained in the Michelin-starred kitchen of the famous Hotel Eden in Rome, cooks there.
