Empordà is the beautiful hinterland of the Costa Brava in the Catalan province of Girona. This is where the Mediterranean meets the Pyrenees. Rolling hills, olive groves, vineyards and picturesque villages characterize the landscape that inspired the famous artist Salvador Dalí throughout his life. Nestled between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Pyrenees, the Empordà wine-growing region stretches from the coast up to altitudes of more than 250 meters. The Denominació d'Origen Empordà is considered the cradle of viticulture in Spain. Grape varieties such as Chenin Blanc, Macabeo, Moscatel, Parellada, Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer grow here on around 2,300 hectares of vineyards. The winegrowers also traditionally produce the high-alcohol Rancios. A fantastic region for explorers, connoisseurs and golfers.
