1st day | 12:00 h Departure from Pretoria. The train travels northwest to Sun City, in the hills of the Pilanesberg. During the journey you will enjoy delicious meals, the comforts of the train and the beauty of this nature reserve. |
Day 2 | The first golf highlight of this trip awaits you in Sun City: The Gary Player Course offers golfing pleasure for all golfers with fascinating views. This immaculate golfing paradise, which was created in the crater of an extinct volcano, is the venue for the annual Nedbank Golf Challenge, where some of the world's greatest golfing legends play. The Lost City Course, also designed by Gary Player, awaits you with wide fairways and a whole series of lakes, which also separate the ninth fairway from the 18th. The special feature of the course is undoubtedly its signature hole: the 13th hole is a par 3 in the shape of the African continent. It is bordered by a pond in which several large crocodiles live! |
Day 3 | The train climbs Majuba Hill. This was the scene of the decisive battle that ended the first English Boer War. The train then passes Newcastle, home to what is said to be the largest Hindu temple in the southern hemisphere with a cell dome, and Glencoe, which was the site of the first battle of the Anglo-Boer War and is now the center of the province's coalfields. |
Day 4 | At the foot of the Drakensberg you play the course of the Champagne Sports Resort, which is considered one of the most scenic golf courses in South Africa. |
Day 5 | In Durban, the Durban Country Club or the Durban Beachwood Club are on the program. The Durban Country Club is characterized by lush vegetation, undulating fairways, sand dunes and a beautiful location overlooking the Indian Ocean. The signature hole is hole 3, a par hole that begins with a tee shot from the highest point of the course into a valley below. The Durban Beachwood Club was designed by Sid & Jack Brews in 1930 and has always been famous for its narrow fairways and indigenous trees. In the late 1990s, Gary Player's design team was asked to redesign some of the holes while adding additional hazards. The result is impressive: Now the course also boasts ingenious bunkers, cleverly placed water hazards and outstanding greens. |
Day 6 | Of course, a trip to South Africa also includes a game drive. In the morning we head to Hluhluwe for a game drive. Hluhluwe is the oldest designated reserve in Africa. It is known for its rich wildlife. |
Day 7 | Fantastic round of golf at the Royal Swazi Golf Club. The spectacular course is one of the most scenic courses in the world. The first nine holes are relatively flat, the second nine take full advantage of the mountainous terrain. Challenging features include lakes, ravines with dense vegetation and cleverly placed bunkers - one is so steep that it can only be reached via steps. |
Day 8 | Game drive in Kruger National Park, the largest game reserve in South Africa. If we get a tee time, you can play golf on the legendary Leopard Creek instead. (optionally bookable) The course represents African golf at its finest with indigenous bushland lining the immaculate fairways and greens. The course is naturally protected from animals, while lakes and small streams meander through the course and picturesque views of the Kruger National Park make for a superlative golfing experience. |
Day 9 | The journey is coming to an end and today you play the last round of this extraordinary trip, the Highland Gate Golf & Trout Estate. This course was designed by Ernie Els. It is a challenging course with large differences in altitude, but is still a pleasure to play for all golfers. |
Day 10 | Drive to Pretoria, arrival 10.00 h. Of course, all other Rovos Rail train journeys can also be booked with us. The unique train journeys can easily be combined with a tailor-made South Africa trip. Let us advise you and ask for a non-binding offer. |
