Fota Island Resort is one of the top golf courses on the island. The Championship Cork Golf Club has already hosted the Irish Open in 2001, 2002 and 2014. In 2011 and 2012, the golf club also hosted the PGA Europro Audi Cork Irish Masters. The Fota Island Resort not only offers championship courses of international caliber, but also an incredible amount of variety with its 27-hole course. In addition to the club's first course, Deerpark (par 71), there is also the Belvelly course (par 72) and the Barryscourt course (par 73). The Fota Island Resort was designed in 1993 by Irish Ryder Cup star Christy O'Connor Jr. and English amateur champion Peter McEvoy. In 2000, the course was redesigned by golf architect Jeff Howes.
