Keilir Golf Course is a links golf course just 15 minutes by car from Reykjavík. The golf course was founded in 1967 as a 9-hole course. The construction of the new front nine through lava fields was completed in 1997. Since then, the golf course has had 18 holes. The front nine in particular requires more skill and accuracy than power and distance. The back nine holes have more of a links character and are located on a small peninsula called Alftanes with spectacular views of the Snaefellsjokull glacier, the Atlantic Ocean and the town of Hafnarfjordur, on the outskirts of which the golf course is located. The golf course is considered by many golfers to be one of the best 18-hole golf courses in the country.
