The East Championship Course of the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club, which was designed by Robert Grimsdell in 1939, is considered one of the best golf courses on the continent. Following the completion of a complete modernization in 2017, the parkland-style course received numerous international awards just one year later, including two World Golf Awards for the best course in South Africa and even Africa as a whole. The course was ranked 25th in Golf Scapes' list of the top 100 golf courses in the world and was named Golf Course of the Year by the Luxury Travel Guide.
