Opened in 1981, the course is the oldest of the five courses at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. After 9 months of renovation work under the supervision of designer Jack Nicklaus, the course was reopened in fall 2016 and has been shining in new splendor ever since. For example, all bunkers were improved, irrigation was installed and most of the course was reseeded. The course is typical of Nicklaus' philosophy: **Make the player use his mind ahead of his muscles to go through his options before drawing a club from the bag".
