Golf course information
The Westman Island Golf Club (Icelandic: Vestmannaeyjar Golf Club) is located on the Westman Islands, approx. 30 minutes by ferry from the mainland. It is the third oldest golf course in Iceland and was originally opened in 1938 as a 6-hole course, expanded to 9 holes in 1962 and to 18 holes in 1994. The par 70 course has hosted the Icelandic National Championships many times, for example in 2008, and is nestled in the crater of an extinct volcano. The first nine holes are more or less flat on the crater floor. The second nine are uphill and more difficult to play. It's not the longest course, but it's still great fun to play, especially given the magnificent scenery around the course. The wind from the Atlantic often plays a part, which can make the round much more difficult than indicated on the scorecard.
