Madeira: Golfing on the flower island
The beautiful island of Madeira, which still belongs to Portugal, is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
It is also known as the flower island because of its impressive variety of flowers. Madeira always has a mild, subtropical climate. However, depending on the location and altitude, temperatures and weather conditions can be completely different on the same day. Madeira is an absolute paradise for nature lovers and active travelers such as hikers and bikers. Golfers have the opportunity to play on two 18-hole golf courses. Further golf courses are already being planned on the island.
The capital Funchal is a modern and green city with first-class restaurants, great markets and various sights right by the sea. During the day, the streets are very relaxed, but when night falls, a vibrant and varied nightlife is revealed. The city is also known for its festivals. These include the colorful flower festival, the carnival and the famous New Year's Eve fireworks display, which is the largest in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records.

Ursin Caduff is a Fully Qualified PGA Golf Professional and has been a golf instructor at Lipperswil Golf Club since 2012. As a member of the Swiss PGA and a graduate of the renowned golf training course at the Bad Griesbach resort, where he worked as a pro for eight years, he has in-depth knowledge of modern swing teaching.
His structured teaching approach, shaped by his training at Plane Truth Golf under Jim Hardy and Chris O'Connell, helps golfers to analyze their swing in a targeted manner and optimize it in the long term. With precise technique and customized training methods, he guides players of all levels to greater consistency, precision and efficiency. With Ursin as your coach, you can realize your full potential and take your golf game to the next level.
In the 19th century, the house served as a hunting lodge. Today it is a beautiful 5-star Relais & Chateaux country hotel in classic English style. Surrounded by nature and high above the sea, it offers a view of the Palheiro Gardens. The capital Funchal is around seven kilometers away and shuttles to the city are offered twice a day. The 18-hole Palheiro championship course is located right next to the hotel. The second 18-hole Santo da Serra golf course is around a 30-minute drive away.
The 38 rooms and suites are spread over three different buildings and reflect the history of the Palheiro Estate in all its beauty and elegance. Each room combines classic design with contemporary embellishments and luxurious comfort. Dark wooden floors, floral curtains and bedding add a special touch to the stay. Each room has a private bathroom, 30-channel cable TV, air conditioning and much more.
There is a choice of three restaurants. In the main restaurant "Quinta Casa Velha do Palheiro", you can enjoy your delicious breakfast in the morning in the beautiful English dining room, served in ceramic tableware. In the evening, the room is transformed into a romantic restaurant with fantastic gourmet cuisine featuring Portuguese and international dishes.
In the afternoon, you can dine in the beautiful Club House with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean and the bay of Funchal. There are great international dishes to choose from. Alternatively, the teahouse in the middle of the garden offers delicious sandwiches, soups and salads.
The hotel also offers an outdoor pool, indoor pool, spa area, fitness room, tennis court and pool table.
