Garden Route
White sandy beaches and tropical forests, deep gorges and huge lagoons: the Garden Route is a unique natural paradise full of contrasts. The famous route with its spectacular and varied landscapes stretches from the village of Mossel Bay over 220 kilometers eastwards to the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma Mountains.
The Garden Route is worth a trip at any time of year. It can be perfectly combined with a stay in Cape Town, the wine region and a safari in one of the malaria-free reserves nearby.
Some of the country's most spectacular golf courses are also undoubtedly to be found in this area. The famous courses of the Fancourt Golf Resort are among the best maintained in Africa. Pinnacle Point, certainly one of the most spectacular courses in South Africa, is in no way inferior to the famous Pebble Beach. Other golfing highlights include the courses at Goose Valley, Mossel Bay, Oubaai Golf, Pezula, Plettenberg Bay Country Club and St. Francis Links. There is a huge abundance of impressive courses along the coast and inland. For a stress-free golf vacation, we also recommend booking tee times early for this region.
Day 1 | Arrival in Cape Town, pick up your rental car. Today you will arrive in Stellenbosch, a picturesque town in the heart of South Africa's wine-growing region. Surrounded by rolling vineyards and majestic mountains, Stellenbosch is known for its historic architecture, world-class wineries and vibrant cultural scene. 2nd - 4th day | During your stay in Stellenbosch you will enjoy two rounds of golf on the attractive courses Pearl Valley Estate and De Zalze Golf Club. Discover Cape Town, 50 minutes away, and the various wine routes in the area. The coastal road from Cape Town to the Cape of Good Hope is also worthwhile. It is one of the most beautiful routes in the world. Also a must: Table Mountain. The world-famous landmark of the city. On a clear day, the view from the summit is magnificent. |
Day 4 - 6 | After a drive of around 2 hours and 20 minutes, you arrive in Gansbaai, where you will spend the next two nights. Gansbaai has developed from a small fishing village into a charming international tourist destination known for its unspoiled nature, miles of white sandy beaches, whale watching and great white sharks. The entire Walker Bay area, between Gansbaai and Hermanus, is a whale sanctuary. Dyer Island lies directly in front of Gansbaai. The breeding ground for African penguins and Cape sea lions attracts great white sharks and is known as "Shark Alley". Day 6 - 9 | The drive to George takes around 3 hours and 45 minutes. You will spend the next three nights at the famous Fancourt Hotel in the heart of the Garden Route and close to the charming town of George. The resort is known for its excellent golf facilities and is one of the best golf addresses in South Africa. The golf resort has two outstanding 18-hole courses, Montagu and Outeniqua, designed by Gary Player. During your stay you will enjoy the excellent Montagu and Outeniqua golf courses. You will also play our MUST-Play course Pinnacle Point Estate, which is less than 1 hour's drive away. Check-in for 3 nights at the Fancourt Hotel. |
Day 9 - 12 | Your journey takes you further east along the Garden Route. Your next destination is Plettenberg Bay, a coastal paradise known for its pristine beaches, diverse marine life and lush forests. Enjoy whale watching, hikes in the Robberg Nature Reserve and the charming town. During your stay in Plettenberg, play a round on the fantastic Goose Valley course. If you want to play a second round, we can recommend the Plettenberg Bay Country Club. If you prefer to take a break from golf, there are countless other great excursions you can go on. Day 12 - 14 | Today you have a longer drive of around 4 hours and 20 minutes to your safari lodge. Experience the ultimate safari experience over the next 3 days. On a game drive, with a bit of luck you will come across the "Big Five" (lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino and leopard). You will also see herds of various wild animals such as zebras, giraffes and antelopes as well as unique landscapes. Check-in for 2 nights at Ukhozi Lodge in the Kariega Game Reserve (silver option) or at Sindle Lodge in the Shamwari Game Reserve (gold option). |
Day 14 - 15 | After your last morning safari, you return to Port Elizabeth, where you spend your final night on this round trip. Check-in for 1 night at the No 5 Boutique Hotel. |
Day 15 | Return rental car in Port Elizabeth. Return flight via Johannesburg or Cape Town. |
