Do you love making thick powder pillows burst under your boards? Do you love steep terrain with countless natural features? Have you always wanted to ride like the guys and girls in ski and snowboard movies? You'll find the right setting at CMH Kootenay. Read more.
Dive into the meter-high powder of the Selkirks and Monashees during the day and into the cool freeride scene in Nakusp in the evening. Unlike many other lodges, at CMH Kootenay you stay in the middle of the village. In the morning, a van will take you to the helipad.
You will mainly be driving through high-altitude forests, with alpine terrain making up only a small part of the terrain. Strong skiers and snowboarders in particular feel at home at CMH Kootenay. As there are only a few opportunities to return to the lodge in between, you should always be in good physical condition. Especially for small group heliskiing and on "Steep Shots and Pillow Drops" trips, where you face the biggest challenges in the area.

Our conclusion about the Kootenay Lodge
If you don't need a fly-in lodge in the wilderness for heliskiing and prefer the flair of a Canadian freeride resort, then CMH Kootenay is the place for you. Younger guests in particular appreciate this. For strong skiers and snowboarders, the Selkirks and Monashees are the first choice anyway. The terrain is challenging, the snow is incredibly deep and the fun is limitless when treeskiing and on glaciers. Our conclusion: Heliski beginners can visit CMH Kootenay - experts should definitely do so.

Via an international airport - usually Vancouver - you take a domestic flight to Kelowna. A shuttle will take you from there to the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel Kelowna. CMH staff will greet you at reception. After a restful night's sleep, you will take the shuttle bus at 11:15 a.m., unless you are traveling by rental car.
On the way, you will take a break in Revelstoke and later cross Upper Arrow Lake by ferry. You will then reach the fishing village of Nakusp, where you will check into your room. Over dinner, you fortify yourself for the first deep-snow turns the next morning, which take place after the obligatory safety training.
On the day of departure you can still powder until 4 pm. At 4:45 pm you take the same route back as on the outward journey. You will arrive at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel at around 9:30 pm. You should have booked your return flight for the next day.

Steep Shots and Pillow Drops is for experts only. Two guides take ten guests to the most spectacular slopes in the area. You are often accompanied by professional riders or sports filmmakers. During the trip, you will also learn how to correctly assess difficult terrain. The rest is pillow lines, steep shots, cliffs and everything that strong freeriders could wish for. Important: The focus is not on the vertical meters, but on the choice of lines!
