Hardly any other heliskiing region in the world challenges skiers and snowboarders as much as Alaska. Where else are the mountains steeper, the conditions rougher, the descents more challenging? From the Tordrillo Mountain Lodge northwest of Anchorage, you have access to one of the most charming and scenic freeride areas anywhere.
The Tordrillo Mountains look as if they were designed for heli-skiing. In fact, it was nature that created a unique playground for real experts through the interaction of erosion and glacier activity: The heli landing sites are spectacular, the alpine slopes below breathtaking, the flanks of the mountains criss-crossed by adventurous couloirs. The view often stretches as far as the Pacific.
From the Tordrillo Mountain Lodge, you fly in small groups of a maximum of four people to a heliskiing area that includes hundreds of glaciers and numerous volcanoes. The lodge itself is a luxurious retreat in Alaska's extreme mountain world. Even the journey by seaplane is a real experience, and the stay at Judd Lake is pure enjoyment.
Our conclusion on the Tordrillo Mountain Lodge
Alaska's rugged mountain world promises adrenaline-filled heliskiing. It's not for nothing that many freeride stars shoot the daring scenes for their films on the glaciers and steep slopes on the Pacific. You don't have to be a pro to powder in the Tordrillo Mountain Lodge area, but you should definitely have a good grip on your skis or board in the terrain. By flying in small groups, the experience can be finely tuned to your personal ability. Spending the night in a fly-in lodge that is as remote as it is luxurious adds a special touch to the trip. Our conclusion: If you are looking for a real challenge when heliskiing but don't want to compromise on comfort, you should definitely try out the Tordrillo Mountain Lodge in Alaska.

The Tordrillo Mountain Lodge is considered one of the most exclusive accommodations in all of Alaska. This is not least due to its picturesque location on Judd Lake, framed by two 3,000-meter volcanoes and within sight of the more than 6,000-meter-high Mount McKinley. The modern log cabin for twelve guests has three floors and six bedrooms. The terraces invite you to laze around with a view of the lake. Amenities include a hot tub, sauna and excellent cuisine.
There are other luxury accommodations in the vicinity of the main lodge. The Judd Lake Lodge can accommodate eight guests and has four large bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, a well-stocked bar with a great wine list and a wood-fired hot tub. On down days you can switch to fat bikes, snowshoes or cross-country skis. A private A-Star B3e helicopter is available for heli-skiing.
Guests at Winterlake Lodge also have exclusive use of this helicopter model. Your accommodation consists of five differently designed guest houses with en-suite bathrooms and a main house with four large bedrooms, a spacious living area and a dining area where award-winning regional dishes are served. Thanks to the lodge's location, heliskiers and boarders can venture far north into the Tordrillo Range and the Neacola Mountains and explore one of the most remote heliskiing areas in the world.
Finally, the Moose Hall & Lakeside Retreats are actually reserved for the summer program, but also accommodate Kings & Corn guests. Up to eight guests can share the two private cabins, each with two bedrooms. Amenities include a massage service, a copper hot tub, a separate communal lodge and a private chef. Of course, the private A-Star B3e helicopter is not to be missed.

Arrival is via Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage. You will spend the night at the Hotel Captain Cook, where a member of staff from the Tordrillo Mountain Lodge will welcome you and discuss the most important things for the coming days with you. The first highlight awaits you the next morning: dressed in ski gear, you board a seaplane that takes you to Tordrillo Mountain Lodge in 40 minutes. On the way, you'll get an overwhelming impression of snow-covered volcanoes, Denali National Park and the imposing Mt. McKinley, the highest mountain in North America. After arriving at the lodge, you will have a safety briefing and then it's off to heliskiing.
On the return day, the transfer is again by seaplane after breakfast. It is generally possible to travel home on the same day, but changes in the weather can quickly lead to delays. It is therefore worth buying tickets to keep your travel plan flexible.
