Discover new skiing territory

Experience the ski touring trip of a lifetime. Greenland doesn't just sound fascinating - it will exceed all your expectations.
Our 8-day ski touring trip in the rugged mountains and glaciers of West Greenland is experienced on board our comfortable ship M/S Balto. The area offers a huge variety of ski destinations and terrain, making each day unique, with unforgettable descents and views every single day. After each ski tour we return to the ship. As a West Greenlander, Captain Taatsi knows this area inside out. His stories about the land and its people will keep us entertained for hours as he navigates the pristine waterways.
West Greenland offers terrain for every desire and ability - and lots of it! Highlights include descents from the summit to the sea, and towards the end of the season you can even ski under the midnight sun.
Whether you're looking for an adrenaline rush on steep couloirs and challenging summits, a test of endurance on long ascents or the leisurely pace of gentle glacier skiing - there's something for everyone. The varied terrain guarantees that skiers of all levels can find their perfect adventure.
The weather in West Greenland is relatively mild. Temperatures range between -5 and +5 degrees Celsius. In spring, high air pressure usually moves in, resulting in sunny skies and light winds, but there can still be days with precipitation.
Ski tours are the main activity on board, but there are also many other activities to do during the trip. There are several sea kayaks and a stand up paddle board. We have a small fleet of dry suits for those who want to go kayaking or stand up paddle boarding on Toru on the calm fjord surrounded by high peaks.
For those who like fishing, there is fishing equipment on board and the crew will be happy to help you land an Arctic cod. There are plenty of fish. A single fishing trip is often enough to feed everyone on the ship with fresh fish.

Our conclusion about Greenland
Greenland is absolutely fascinating. It is especially beautiful from the water. That's why we travel from ski tour to ski tour on our comfortable ship. It's hard to imagine more variety and more unforgettable impressions than in western Greenland.

LODGE DESCRIPTION

The M/S Balto is named after the lead dog of the 1925 serum shipment to Nome. She was built in Rauma, Finland, to the highest ice class standards and originally served as a government vessel in the Baltic Sea. Between 2019 and 2022, she was completely refurbished and is now one of the most spacious and elegant small polar expedition yachts in operation. The M/S Balto offers relaxed luxury accommodation for 12 guests in 7 outside cabins, all with en-suite bathrooms and lower beds. The spacious cabins include 1 owner's cabin, 1 superior cabin, 3 double cabins and 2 single cabins. The owner's cabin is 30 m², has 6 windows and a queen-size bed, while the superior cabin is equipped with two single beds. The three double cabins are each equipped with a queen-size bed. Both the owner's cabin and the superior cabin offer a separate seating area. All cabins are equipped with a desk, a chair and a closet.

There is a small sauna with a cold shower on the guest deck. The richly appointed salon and beautiful dining room feature mahogany paneling, a bar, library and coffee and tea stations.

There are several open and semi-enclosed deck areas from which you can enjoy the breathtaking Arctic scenery. You will be greeted by an international crew and the bridge is open to visitors.

With our two Zodiacs we explore the wilderness and go ashore in settlements and breathtaking natural landscapes.

The M/S Balto is truly unique among small polar expedition ships. A voyage aboard this unique 12-passenger vessel offers a completely different and much more intimate experience of Greenland than a larger ship.

A small group of only 12 passengers allows for greater flexibility, unique itineraries and more time ashore. In addition, the ecological footprint we leave behind is significantly smaller.

The M/S Balto is designed to explore the most remote fjord systems, visit Inuit settlements, reach remote anchorages and maximize each guest's experience in the untouched wilderness.
