Explore the diversity of Oman

Oman is a country that rests like a well-kept secret between desert, sea and mountains. When you think of Oman, you don't just see endless sand dunes under a glowing red sunset or the turquoise-blue bays of the Arabian Sea. Oman is much more: a place where old traditions meet a young, dynamic society, where hospitality is not just a word but a living culture.
This sultanate in the east of the Arabian Peninsula fascinates with its natural diversity - from the dramatic gorges of the Hajar Mountains to the green oasis landscapes in Salalah and the starry nights in the Wahiba Desert. It is a land of contrasts, where time seems to stand still while innovation and sustainable development are promoted.
But the true richness of Oman lies in its soul: in the stories of the Bedouins, the mystical souks full of scents and colors, and in the pride of a people who live their identity with openness and dignity. Anyone who travels to Oman feels the spirit of adventure, the power of nature and the inspiration that grows from genuine cultural richness.
Oman is not a place you simply visit - it is an experience that stays with you forever.

Wichtige Informationen
Landscape

Oman is characterized by a diverse landscape, ranging from barren deserts such as the Rub al-Chali and rugged mountains such as the Hajar Mountains to fertile oases and a long coastline on the Arabian Sea. Wild oleanders, acacias and the occasional juniper tree grow in the mountains, while date palms and banana trees characterize the oases. The wildlife includes Arabian oryx antelopes, Nubian ibex, desert foxes and numerous reptile species. The coasts are home to sea turtles, dolphins and a rich bird life, including flamingos and herons. Despite the dry climate, Oman offers surprisingly diverse habitats for plants and animals.

Climate

The best time to visit Oman is from November to March, when the climate is pleasantly mild with temperatures between 20 and 30°C. During this time, it is ideal for round trips, hiking in the mountains or visiting the desert, as it is neither too hot nor too humid.
The climate in Oman is generally hot and dry, especially inland and in the desert, where temperatures can reach over 45°C in summer. On the coast - especially around Muscat and Salalah - it is also very humid in summer. In the south (Dhofar region), the monsoon "Khareef" provides a green, foggy climate from June to September - an exception in an otherwise dry country.

Culture

Oman is characterized by a rich cultural diversity, which is reflected in traditional architecture, clothing, music and craftsmanship. Different ethnic groups such as Arabs, Baluchis and people of African descent have lived together peacefully here for centuries. The Omani hospitality is particularly noteworthy - visitors are welcomed with great respect, openness and often with dates and coffee. The deep roots in Islam are combined with a remarkably tolerant and open-minded attitude. This warm, respectful culture makes Oman a particularly welcoming destination.

Note on Ramadan

When traveling to Arab countries during Ramadan, there are some cultural and practical aspects that are important to keep in mind in order to be respectful and have an enjoyable trip.
Eating, drinking & smoking in public
Between sunrise and sunset, eating, drinking or smoking is prohibited or frowned upon in almost all public areas - even for non-Muslims. However, many hotels offer secluded areas for non-fasters.
Opening hours & daily routine
Shops, museums and government offices often open later or for shorter periods, and many restaurants remain closed during the day. Life shifts to the evening and night, especially after breaking the fast (iftar).
Dress & behavior
During Ramadan, there are particularly strict expectations regarding respectful dress: keep shoulders and knees covered, no revealing clothing.
Restraint in caresses, loudness and celebrations is also appropriate.
Traffic & atmosphere around iftar
Traffic chaos can occur just before sunset (iftar time) as everyone rushes home or to restaurants. It is best not to drive during this time or bring plenty of patience.
Despite restrictions: unique atmosphere
In the evening after sunset, life on the streets is particularly lively: festive lighting, street markets and communal dining. Many hotels and restaurants offer special iftar buffets with local specialties - a cultural highlight!
